風呂敷のサイズは｢巾（はば）｣という言葉で表すのが一般的です。着尺小幅・鯨尺の9寸（約34cm）が基本となり、それが1幅（巾）となりました。現 在、幅に合わせた織機が造られ、4巾（約130cm）までは生産されています。5巾以上は、風呂敷を作る時に、継いでつくります。
素材別の主な風呂敷のサイズ絹・化学繊維は中巾・二巾・二四巾（一部三巾）
綿は50cm・二四巾・三巾・四巾・五巾・六巾・七巾
（但し、五巾以上は継になります。）
